Artist Spotlight: Zoe Reijue

Where are you from and how did you end up in Berlin?

I’m originally from Moscow, Russia. I had planned to move to Berlin in 2020, but the pandemic hit, and I couldn’t secure the necessary permits for relocation. Unable to perform officially, I found myself in limbo. Then, just as things seemed to be settling down, the war broke out, dampening my motivation to pursue music. In protest, I canceled all my performances in Russia. At that point, I thought my music career was over, and I began considering other job options. However, during this period of upheaval, I received my first invitation to perform in Germany at Fusion in 2022. It was then that I realized I shouldn’t give up.

We’d love to know your journey with music.

My journey with music began with a deep connection to the piano, where I delicately expressed emotions through its keys. I completed my musical education, mastering the piano. There was a period of touring with a choir, performing in Notre-Dame de Paris and Vienna. However, the piano eventually became more than just an instrument; it became a vessel for my emotions. In 2018 I attended to Burning Man, SIRQ in Paris, Mira’s BD at Kater Blau and experienced the vastness and depth of electronic music firsthand. It was there that I realized unifying power, transcending language barriers. Inspired, I delved into electronic music production, spending years honing my craft. In 2022, just before the pandemic struck, I released my debut album with super talented Iorie. During the lockdown in Moscow, confined within four walls, music became my solace and sanctuary.

What else do you love doing besides music?

Besides music, I find joy in reading sociology and psychology researches. I also enjoy statistics and conducting marketing audits for fintech startups. Additionally, I cherish moments spent with friends and loved ones and relish the opportunity to travel and discover new cultures.
