Artist Spotlight: Lucie

Lucie is performing at Monarch, Berlin, on Thursday, 10th August. She sat down with us to share her journey before her show.
Tell us more about how your journey with music began, your influences, and how you evolved.

I started playing the violin when I was five. Throughout my teenage years I got interested in Singing/Songwriting and playing the piano. I went on to study singing and songwriting as well as sound engineering and music production. My artistic fingerprint was also highly influenced by the various experimental projects that I created and was involved in. Such projects as performance art, working with dancers and making street music. Stylistically 90s triphop is an influence that can be heard in my music, although I am trying to stir away from anything that sounds too pastiche.

Do you write all your music and lyrics by yourself? What is your creative process when you make a song?

I write my songs and lyrics myself, but I like to collaborate throughout the process. Often I write a first song draft just on the piano and then produce it, or I make a beat and write some lyrics to improvise over it. In my latest productions I took a lot of my ideas and developed them together with different writers and producers, particularly with my main producer partner Edgar Alvis.

What do you love doing besides music?

I love being active, like going out for a dance or just being outside to go for runs, bike rides and yoga. I also discovered Snowboarding over the last couple of years. Another one of my passions used to be the theater, although I didn’t find a lot of time lately to engage with it much.
